For the showreel I decided to make some animations relating to characters I have created in my games and 3D animation work. I used my robot from my French game and have made him a retro 1950's style Spacestation. I decided to make a 'story' style introduction to introduce myself.
It starts with Aday is in his spacestation having afternoon tea with his friend Elesse The Elephant......when they are interrupted by a chain of happenings....

In the above image is the Spy-O-Matic 9000 which Aday uses to scan planets for lifeforms he is looking for. Below is the link to the 'Hologram' which appears in the Spy-o-Matic screen space.
The hologram developed further and was composited into the Spy-Of-Matic machine.

The hologram in the Spy-o-Matic introduces the 'Kirsty/Coraxsapien' Avatar.

This is a Blast-o-Tron it blasts things! This is the Warp-O-Tron it er warps.

Elesse the Art Nouveau Elephant encounters a 'Brain Dome'

For my showreel I created some incidental animations, using Rockin Raven from Rockin Robin who I had rigged and animated but had not had chance to use in the Rockin Robin animation. I was also learning Z Brush at the time and followed a tutorial to create an alien using sculpting. I really liked the alien so I decided to rig and animate him and he became the Raven's friend and shares her house and is with her in the garden scene.
In the second introduction scene the Raven is in her garden which is populated by broccoli trees, super sour lolly pop trees, cartoon trees, 1950's flowers, a mountain bike, a record player, a dog, an alien and her laptop!

The DNA part of the showreel. My favourite film is 2001 and one of my favourite parts is where Dave enters the Monolith, so every time I think of ideas happening in my mind I think of this and it inspired the DNA sequence on a journey to where my ideas happen. It's meant to be a sort of tongue in cheek type approach but it's how I imagine the journey to my thoughts. DNA was discovered in the 1950's and all 1950's/60's imagery, science fiction and history has always influenced my animation work.
I used Maya Mash and Trapcode Particular to create the 3D motion graphics for the DNA strands and also the other DNA structures.

Raven also lives with Rockin Robin (from my animation) so I decided to use the wallpaper, chairs and record player etc from the original animation and also personalise their home! I decided as she loves 1950's clothes and songs like myself, she could be my avatar and be the character who introduces and also finishes the showreel. I used Illustrator to draw all the wallpaper and Rockin Raven's guitars for her skirt.
